About us
1for3.org, a 501(C)(3) registered non-profit in Massachusetts, is an organization founded almost 15 years ago. We began working in Palestine in 2013. Our programs in Palestine are growing tremendously. The change in people’s daily lives that our programs have provided is truly astounding and we have the same hope for Lebanon.
In June 2025 we expanded our work to South Lebanon under 1for3-Lebanon. Our successful experience over the many years in the West Bank, despite the major disruptions and conflict there, has given us the confidence, know-how, and experience to expand our work into South Lebanon.
We chose this area for a number of reasons; primarily because the people of South Lebanon have asked us to and they desperately need it. Our base is in Jdeidet Marjayoun, which is close to the Israeli border. The people in the surrounding villages are religiously mixed, covering the main Lebanese sects. Our work is currently focused in Burj el Mulouk, Qlaya’a, Marjayoun, Dibbin, Blat, Bwaydah, and Ibl el Saqi. We are non-religious and non-political. We simply are helping people in need and the need is great.
Our support means that the locals can remain steadfast in their resistance on their land and most importantly not become refugees.
Our esteemed country Director is Salim Barkett. We are extremely lucky to have Salim help lead the way.

We support the local villagers in 3 ways: Health, Education, and the Environment.
Health
Working with our amazing Boston based physicians, Bram Wispelwey, MD, MPH and Henry Louis MD, we have hired 6 Community Health Workers (composed of 1 RN/ICU/EMT, 1 RN/Pharmacist, 1RN, 1 Psychologist, 1 Elderly Care Specialist). All CHW come from the villages we work in and are religiously mixed.
Our US-based medical team has conducted 3 trips to Lebanon already to interview, select and train the CHW. In addition, our medical team conducts weekly online training every Fri for 90-120 min. The CHW have registered 450+ patients currently in need of our services.
Two of our 1for3-Lebanon board members are physicians living in Tyre, Mustafa Jradi, MD (Orthopedics) and his wife Amal Salibi, MD (ObGyn) who volunteer their time to help make this program successful. Another board member, Muna Khalidi has a PhD in Public Health; another member Adele Khodr was UNICEF head Middle East for decades. Salim and Andrew Kurban are also board members.
Our Community Health Workers (CHW) make home visits focusing on chronic diseases that are endemic in the south; Diabetes and Cardiovascular health. They also cover women’s health as well as psychosocial trauma, especially with children and teens. The CHW coordinate patients’ health between MDs, NGOs, MOPH, MOH, pharmacists, hospitals and crucially maintain and store the information on our own medical records system in the cloud. It’s unfortunate that medical records do not exist in these villages, a big reason why medical care is haphazard and poor.
Education
1for3-Lebanon has established a collaboration with Babson College in Boston, MA. Seven teachers from three high schools (Shouf National College, Collège des Sœurs de Saint-Cœurs Marjayoun and Marjayoun National College) are participating in a 6-week course in Entrepreneurship. Babson College is recognized as the #1 school for Entrepreneurship in the US. Upon completion of the course, the teachers will be certified to teach Entrepreneurship to Baccalaureate 1 & 2 (Grade 12 & 13) students. With this unique opportunity, the students and teachers have the chance to create a ripple effect using the tools to create businesses and remain steadfast in the south. This program has already been funded by a generous donor for 2026.
Environment
With four experts and several volunteers in Environmental Science, we are assisting local farmers with their environmental needs. Their lands, which support their livelihoods and well-being have been subjected to repeated shelling and illegal use of phosphorous bombs. The contamination of water and soil has numerous, untold short and long-term effects, but we will assist in these remediation efforts and support.
Our efforts are two-fold:
A. We are also seeking funding for a pilot project with the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute in Hasbaya, Lebanon in the Marjayoun district to map the areas that have been contaminated by the war as well as conducting water and soil sampling and consolidation of information. This resulted after our research in the South and the ASK from the local farmers. There is no verifiable data on the extent of contamination and the short/long term effects of all the heavy metals and contaminants in the bombs.
B. 1for3-Lebanon will rent agricultural land and partner with locals (whom we will mentor) and farmers who are unable to access their land due to security or contamination of the land so that these farmers can remain in the South, earn a living and help feed the communities we work in.
We hope that you agree that these programs are lifelines for these villagers. So many have already been displaced and suffered tremendous losses. Please help us help them.
Our goal is to raise $200,000 to fund our projects through 2026. If we raise $200,000, we will receive an anonymous gift of $50,000. If 40 people donate $5,000, or 200 people donate $1,000, we will reach our goal.
If you would like information on our budget or anything else, please email info@1for3.org.
